Opening Day
Today, as I was coming back from my child's school, I was listening to sports radio. The talking heads coming out of my speakers reminded me that it was opening day for the Mariners baseball team. The talking heads were speaking about their memories as a kid for opening day and family. Also which sport was the most important at the time of their youth. For one it was baseball and for the other it was football. As for me it has always been football. For the one that liked baseball, he was very excited about this opening day because he and his wife have a beautiful newborn child. With this child, their first I might add, he was going to tell her all about the rules of the game and how fun it is. Of course she can't talk yet but she can listen very well. The other talked about how football was king in his household as a child. His dad would come home from coaching and bring him and his brothers football pads to play in. As they was talking, I started to think about if I do that for my girls. Do I do those things for the sport I like the most. Sadly, I don't. Then something hit me. I realize that the one thing that I do do is. Tell them about Jesus. I tell them about the Kingdom of Heaven and how it works. It tell them about the Lord and that He is King. I realize that I really like football but nowhere near the love I have for my King and Our Christ, Jesus. As I look back I shared things about football to my children but not like I share about Jesus. Sometimes I talk so much about Jesus and of His Kingdom I wonder if I am overloading them with the gospel. Thank God that is not possible! Any situation that I am in I try and take through the word. I hope that doesn't sound high and mighty. But I believe I am a follower of Christ first and everything else second. I am nowhere near perfect and I am very flawed but this is how I believe God wants us to live. That we seek ye the Kingdom of God first. I am not always good at doing that but I know that is what I'm supposed to do and that I am getting better at it. Football, baseball and any other sport is a great way to bond with family. Its great for the community and great for our bodies. But before I share these great sports to my children. I need to share the Love of Christ to them first, His passion to see His will done in my household and His passion to see His will done in your lives. I will teach of His love, how He wants us to live free in His Kingdom and how He does things in His Kingdom. So for me and my house we will put God first and praise His Holy name. I hope you do the same and if you don't know how I'll show you just let me know. Amena!! (Ugandan)
